Product Information :

The Jabsco seal # 96080-0583 is a Primary Seal Face Kit consisting of both the hard Carbon on Silicon Carbide mating faces, used in Jabsco size 52 and 54 rotary lobe pumps. NOTE : this is not the complete pump seal and is only a Primary Face seal kit. 2 Primary seal face kits are required per pump. Additionally you may need a Seal Trim kit, and a Wave Spring. A complete seal is made of this Primary Face seal, a Seal Trim elastomer kit, and a Wave Spring. These are high quality hard Carbon on Silicon Carbide mating faces which make up part of the mechanical shaft seal and are designed to prevent leakage of product from the pump into the atmosphere and to prevent contamination by airborne micro-organisms. This seal design is unique to Jabsco and has a number of features which are a major benefit to the user. These primary seal faces are hydraulically pressure-balanced so that the contact pressure between the faces is controlled. This gives excellent sealing even at very low pressures as well as long life at high pressures. The Jabsco pump seal is specially developed to fully expose the sealing faces and the joints around the seal to the fluid, and is crevice-free, with no metal parts in fluid contact, and no moving parts or springs in fluid contact for highest standards of CIP and SIP capability. This ensures good circulation of product to avoid stagnant areas where bacteria can multiply, with good cooling of the seal faces and maximum flow of cleaning fluids around the seal. This design also ensures that, when the pump is stopped, fluid can drain from the seal area.

Applications:

This Carbon on Silicon-Carbide seal is suitable for many clean fluids which do not require a more sophisticated seal. Typical liquids this seal is used with are those which are non-toxic and non hazardous, have some lubricating properties that have a viscosity less than 150,000 centipoise, and liquids that are NOT highly abrasive. Liquids that are pumped at a temperature less than 80 degrees C (176 degrees F), and are not excessively temperature sensitive and do not degrade when heated by the friction of the seal faces. You can use this where you not require steam or a sterile fluid (aseptic) barrier, and with liquids that do not change state in contact with air, and liquids that do not form a film, dry out or precipitate solids.

Installation:

When servicing seals, it is not normally necessary to fit new springs and housings. Drive plates should be inspected for wear and replaced as necessary. These primary face kits do not contain elastomers. Ensure that the correct elastomer trim kits are ordered for the application if they are necessary. Pumps fitted with single seals require no special installation but pumps must never be run completely dry for more than 30 seconds as this will cause excessive heating of the seal faces.|
