Product Information :

The Jabsco seal # 96080-0586 is a Single Seal Trim Kit consisting of the EPDM Sleeve (fitted to rotor), the EPDM Seal Trim O-Ring, and the Washer under Seal Rotary Face , used in Jabsco size 52 and 54 rotary lobe pumps. NOTE : this is not the complete pump seal and is only a Single Seal Trim Kit. 2 Single Seal Trim kits are required per pump. Additionally you may need a Primary Face seal, and a Wave Spring. A complete seal is made of this Seal Trim elastomer kit, a Primary Face seal, and a Wave Spring. These are high quality EPDM elastomers which make up the elastomeric part of the mechanical shaft seal and are designed to prevent leakage of product from the pump into the atmosphere and to prevent contamination by airborne micro-organisms. This seal design is unique to Jabsco and has a number of features which are a major benefit to the user. The Jabsco pump seal is specially developed to fully expose the sealing faces and the joints around the seal to the fluid, and is crevice-free, with no metal parts in fluid contact, and no moving parts or springs in fluid contact for highest standards of CIP and SIP capability. This ensures good circulation of product to avoid stagnant areas where bacteria can multiply, with good cooling of the seal faces and maximum flow of cleaning fluids around the seal. This design also ensures that, when the pump is stopped, fluid can drain from the seal area.

Installation:

When servicing seals, it is not normally necessary to fit new springs and housings. Drive plates should be inspected for wear and replaced as necessary. Pumps fitted with single seals require no special installation but pumps must never be run completely dry for more than 30 seconds as this will cause excessive heating of the seal faces.

Seal Design:

These pump seals do not use O-rings anywhere in product contact. The rotating seat is fitted directly into the back of the rotor to eliminate crevices and the L-section seal cup is slightly flared at its edges. The stationary seat is sealed directly to the rotor case by a ring with a modified square cross-section. Both these joints are, in effect, types of gaskets. But whereas a flat gasket could allow some penetration of product at its edges when pressurized, these joints prevent this due to the higher contact force where they interface with the product zone. It can be seen quite clearly that these joints are far less likely to harbor bacteria than conventional joints.|
