Product Information :

The Oberdorfer 170MA81 is a Bronze Centrifugal Pump and motor unit, with Bronze Impeller, Buna Lip Seal, 316 Stainless Steel shaft, 3/4 Inch NPT Inlet by 3/4 Inch NPT Outlet Ports, close coupled to a 1/10 Horsepower, 3480 RPM, 12 Volts DC, TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) Motor. This pump has a heavy duty rugged corrosion resistant bronze construction, with a silent running long life DC motor with a corrosion resistant passivated 316 Stainless Steel Shaft, and anti-clogging single open vane rotating impeller. This long-life centrifugal pump delivers high flows up to 13 GPM with a maximum pressure of 7 psi. The pump uses a Buna N lip type shaft seal with a stainless steel spring reinforcement on a stainless steel motor shaft. The seal is friction press fit in a machined housing counterbore. Excessive system pressures above 15 PSI going into the pump are not recommended as the seal could be forced out of the pump housing. Liquid enters at the center and is thrown outward radially by centrifugal force. The impeller is not in contact with other pump parts resulting in quiet, efficient pumping action. The flow produced is not positive which permits the discharge line to be shut off completely without danger of overloading motors or bursting lines. Consequently, a relief valve is not required. This centrifugal circulation pump is designed for reliability and ease of use, and is the correct product for closed-circuit circulation systems, such as livewell circulation, washdown, central heating and other flooded suction applications. This pump is ideal for hot water circulation duties such as engine cooling and central heating systems. This pump is not self-priming. It must be installed below the liquid level so that the liquid flows to the pump by gravity (flooded suction). The pump can be mounted on any flat surface, and must be installed below the lowest fluid level to maintain flooded suction. If the pump is to be mounted vertically, ensure that the motor is above the pump head. The flow of these pumps can be conveniently controlled by a throttling valve in the discharge line. Horsepower demand will decrease as the pressure increases. Maximum horsepower occurs with a wide open discharge.

Applications

There are many applications that the Oberdorfer 170MA81 are used in. Typical applications are Marine Air Conditioning, Engine Block Temperature Control, Radiator and Heat Exchanger Circulation Baitwell Circulation, as well as circulation applications such as hot and cold water systems, windscreen washing, livewell and bait tank systems and liquid transfer. These circulation pumps can be used in low pressure circulation applications such as marine central heating systems where they can be used to circulate heated coolant water heater from an engines recirculating fresh water system through radiators in the vessel living spaces. One of the outstanding features of this pump and motor unit is its compact size. Although small, adequate motor power is available for pumping water, water solutions, and a wide range of commercial chemicals. Viscous liquids with a maximum viscosity of 2000 Saybolt Seconds Universal can be pumped. However, when pumping viscous liquids as compared with water a reduction in flow and pressure occurs and the required horsepower increases. Liquids heavier than water require additional horsepower in direct proportion to the increase in specific gravity. To connect the pump to piping use 3/4 inch pipe fittings with PTFE pipe joint tape or compound.
