The Oberdorfer impeller # 8515 is a flexible rubber impeller, made of Nitrile, with 8 blades/fins, and is 2-9/16 inches wide (65mm) by 2 inches thick (51mm), and has a 5/8 inch (16mm) Brass Key Drive shaft hub.
This impeller is made from Nitrile rubber material and can be used for bilge pumping, and for transfer duties where the water is heavily contaminated, for example by oil or diesel. Replace all impellers at least once every year, or sooner, depending on the engine duty. When the installation is correct an impeller may last for several years, but it is always advisable to stick to a schedule of preventative, rather than corrective, maintenance. Nitrile impellers handle a wide range of oils, oil and water emulsions, diesel fuel, lower-fraction hydrocarbons, kerosene, and lubricating and machine-cutting oil. If corrosive products are pumped, pump life will be prolonged if pump flushed with water at the end of each work cycle. Temperature range of Nitrile impellers is 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) to 180 degrees F (82.2 degrees C). Lower temperatures affect priming ability and performance characteristics. The Nitrile impellers are softer and will give a reduced rated flow 10 percent below the listed pump performance. Always carry spare impellers on board in case of emergency. The impeller is one of the most vital components of the engine cooling system and should always be treated as such. Oberdorfer flexible impellers are subjected to rigorous quality processes to ensure reliable, efficient and long lasting performance.
