Low Level Shut-Off Automatic Sump Pump

Q. Under my house there is a crawlspace that fills up with about 3" to 4" of water, but then leaks into the house. I need to remove this whenever it builds up. I would like a float switch but most pumps automatically turn off where I need this pump to start. Please tell me what pump to get.

A. The lowest level shut-off pump on the market has an automatic shut-off that will turn the pump on at 2" to 3", and turn the pump off at 1/2". It does about 10 - 20 GPM. Comes with Garden Hose attachment. Not too good with solids, so try to keep them out of this pump.

High Flow Pump for Flooding Basements or Yards

Q. Every spring my backyard floods. A large corner of it has about 2 feet of water that I want to remove quickly. What do you have in high volume low cost ( I'll only use it once or twice a year ).

A. I would recommend Flotec model # FP0S6000A, which is designed for this purpose. It will do a maximum 115 GPM, and at 10 feet of vertical head about 85 GPM. It comes complete with a mesh cage around the inlet, a check valve on the discharge and a piggyback float switch. Can be used automatic or manually, and is a great utility pump to use for many other drainage applications. It is priced under $ 220.00 or more.

Places too small for a sump pump. ( Sump Holes 6" and under )

Q. I have a 4" Drain Hole in my basement that fills up with water and eventually floods the basement every month. I can't fit a pump in it, and would like it to work while I am not there ( automatic pump please ).

A. An easy solution for you is to use a 5 GPM flexible impeller pump or "puddle sucker" pump, and attach a garden hose to it. It will lift the water out of the hole no problem. To operate it automatically, use a Little Giant model #  RS-5 diapragm float switch to activiate it. The switch gets tied to the garden hose that goes into the hole, and the pump cord plugs into the back of the 3 pronged switch cord, and the whole thing plugs into your wall outlet. A completely automatic solution.

Places NOT too small for a sump pump. ( Sump Holes 9" to 6.5" in Diameter )

Q. Looking for an automatic sump pump for a small hole aprox. 7" in Diameter in my Basement.

A. There is only 1 pump in the world you can use in a small hole like that. For a hole smaller than 8" but bigger than 6.5" in diameter use a Flotec model # FP0S1775A automatic sump pump. Attach a garden hose, plug it into the wall and your done.
